Cruelty Free Tinted Moisturizers

I’m a polar bear. My friend Rita calls me a polar bear because I tend to run hot when other people are cold. Unfortunately for this bear, summer’s not over in Southern California. In fact, it’s been in the high ’90s this week. I did not approve this.

When it’s hot, I tend to wear lighter foundations or tinted moisturizers. These have been my fave cruelty free tinted moisturizers this summer (pictured L-R above – in order from most coverage to least coverage):

Avon Extra Lasting Liquid Foundation ($12 – on sale now for $9.99)

  • This is the thickest of the bunch but still a medium-weight foundation.
  • Blends easily
  • SPF 12
  • Resists water, sweat & humidity
  • Lasts all day
  • 17 different shades for all skin tones

I just found out from a reader that Avon has been moved from PETA’s “don’t test” to the “do test” list. What on earth happened? Does anyone know?

Rae Climate Control ($39)

  • Mineral and water-based tinted moisturizer
  • Blends easily (the color I tried wasn’t quite right but I was still able to wear it because it’s quite easy to blend).
  • SPF 20 (non-chemical)
  • Created for the humid Texas summer climate (which I know a lot about being from Louisiana!) – resists water, sweat and humidity – you’d better believe I’m bringing this with me when I visit my parents in Louisiana!
  • Lasts all day in the Los Angeles heat (although I haven’t tried it in the humid South yet)
  • 8 shades
  • Contains antioxidants (Vitamins A, C & E)

FusionBeauty Prime Results Tinted Moisturizer ($40)

  • A primer and tinted moisturizer in one
  • SPF 15
  • Highly moisturizing but doesn’t clog pores
  • Contains anti-aging peptides and antioxidants (Vitamins A, C & E)
  • Sheer coverage
  • 4 shades

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics OCC Tint ($25)

  • The sheerest of the bunch, but can be layered for heavier coverage
  • No SPF
  • Moisturizing – contains coconut and acai extracts – does not contain oil and doesn’t clog pores
  • No parabens, silicone or petroleum derivatives
  • Vegan
  • Created for HD TV and used for LA and NYC Fashion Week
  • 12 shades

Woo hooo for Avon stuff! I didn't realize it was cruelty free. I will definitely have to check it out. I'm not a very good Avon rep! :) Even though it's a "liquid foundation" … you do still consider it to be closer to a tinted moisturizer?

Wow, Avon makes a cruely free product? I love ZuZu Luxe, tinted moisturizer, use it in hot or cold weather!

  5. It's pretty light – kind of medium coverage I guess!

  6. Yep! Avon was the first major cosmetics company to end animal testing on both on its finished product and ingredients in 1989.

  7. WAIT a minute – now I'm hearing that Avon has been moved to PETA's "do test" list. I'm trying to find out what happened!!

  9. That is really cool that these moisturizers have not been tested on animals. Good colors too :)
