My New Favorite Mascara

There comes in a time in every beauty bunny’s life when the need to make smarter beauty product choices outweighs the reluctance to throw out that one last non-cruelty free product you just can’t let go of.

For months, I’ve gradually stopped using beauty companies that test on animals and have happily switched over to cruelty free products and cosmetics. Like any bad habit, there always seemed to be a good excuse for the continued purchase of my favorite mascara even thought it gave me pangs of guilt everytime I whipped out my mascara wand. It was on sale! I don’t have time to look for a new one! I will never find a formula this perfect! Isn’t there always an excuse when we aren’t ready for something? But as of today, I’ve replaced my old, non-cruelty free favorite mascara with my new OTC favorite!

Revlon’s Photoready 3D Volume mascara is a perfect, everyday mascara if you prefer a drier formula like I do. The wand is one of the plastic ones and is spaced farther apart which really helps prevent clumps. It was an average OTC price of around $8 and can be easily found at most drugstores.

Mascara is my crutch. I love CG LashExact. I have tried some eco brands, but they have yet to produce similar results. Come to think of it, I also need a stick liner in eco format.

Yes I can relate to you about always finding an excuse to break an old habit.

I trought revlon did test on animals

I currently use Urban Decay mascara, but would love to have a more accessible OTC brand that I could just pick up at my local drug store. It is my understanding that Revlon still conducts animal testing. I use http://www.leapingbunny.org/shopsearch.php#r as a resource. Unfortunately, PETA's list includes many companies that use animal tested ingredients; they make the list because they do not test their final product on animals. If you have specific information you can pass on about a no-testing policy from Revlon, I would surely appreciate it! Thank you =)

Revlon is not listed in the Leaping Bunny Compassionate Buying Guide – Only their Almay Pure line. PETA has Revlon listed as a company that does not test on animals. Perhaps they use ingredients that have been tested on animals? There seems to be some confusion over Revlon's status.

  6. Hi, Lauren. I've never tried Revlon's mascara. Happy to read that you think it's perfect. Thank you for the post! x

I have recently switched to all cruelty free products and I can't find a mascara that I am liking that is cruelty free. I have been using cover-girl forever. I like a lot of sephora mascaras but I'm not sure if they are cruelty free.

  8. Hi Julie – PETA and Leaping Bunny have different methods. Leaping Bunny is more strict and does periodic audits. I believe they both ask the same thing (that the company not test and it's ingredient suppliers don't test), but Leaping Bunny requires legal documentation from the ingredient suppliers and PETA does not. This is my understanding anyway – correct me if I'm wrong.

  10. No – Revlon is cruelty free to my knowledge. PETA approved, but not Leaping Bunny approved.

  11. I have been a long time fan of Loreal Voluminous but I think I will try this next!

Maybelline Lash Stiletto, I cave into this one after not liking Almay's waterproof mascaras. I still can't find an eco/animal-friendly mascara that is waterproof and works well for me. :( My eyes will get watery and haven't found one that is "water-proof" yet.
