Product Review – Violet Rose Skin Toner by Rachel Perry

I went to T.J. Maxx to see if they had any Bliss products in stock.  They didn’t.  But, they did have plenty of other goodies.

I bought Rachel Perry’s Violet Rose Skin Toner.  I love the packaging – pink is my favorite color.  There’s some kind of nonsense on the back of the package about “colors n’ scents synergy” that’s supposed to “harmonize and communicate a rejuvenating and romantic message to the mind, body and all the senses.”  Okay, whatever.  But, I have to say the pretty pink bottle makes me happy.

I’m easily moved by pretty colors and fabulous packaging.  I’ve been known to stare at my fingernails for long periods of time while ooh’ing and ahh’ing after putting on a coat of some great new nail color, but that’s another story.

Anyway, after being attracted by the packaging, I checked out the list of ingredients, and they all looked pretty fantastic.  It has tons of soothing and moisturizing ingredients, and no alcohol, which is important for my dry, sensitive skin.  It has aloe vera, calendula, marshmallow root, rose hips, comfrey, chamomile, arnica, NaPCA and a ton of other natural ingredients.  It’s paraben-free and is supposed to normalize the pH balance of your skin. (NOTE: the websites that carry this product, such as Vitacost, list parabens in the ingredients. The rep from Rachel Perry assured me the formulation has been paraben-free since May 2008. When purchasing, you may want to make sure you are getting the paraben-free variety – no propylparaben or methylparaben.)

I have been using plain ‘ole witch hazel every day, and it’s been just fine, but I always wonder if there’s something better out there.  The scent is wonderful – it smells like fresh roses.  My skin feels soothed and soft and not irritated.  It also comes in a bottle that is great for travel – you pull the top up to open, and push down to close (too big for a carry-on though).

And, the best part is that I got it for $4.99 at T.J. Maxx!  If you want to get it online, Vitacost is the cheapest I’ve found.  Definitely a win.  I highly recommend it.
