From coral cheeks to shimmery lids, this season’s makeup trends require a flawless canvas. Read on for tips from top celebrity makeup artists and cruelty free brand, Dermalogica’s own Director of Global Education on how to achieve gorgeous skin and chic spring looks.

Tis the Season… of Multi-Tasking!
Springtime is hello-again-skin-time! As you stash away your warm, winter, woolens and switch up your wardrobe in favor of the season’s light cheery brights, it’s a prime time to do the same for your skin! Say goodbye to thick creams and lotions and hello to light, hydrating fluids and dual-action products.

Dermalogica’s Director of Global Education, Annet King, recommends switching from your creamy, rich cleanser to a multi-tasking one that exfoliates, retexturizes and cleanses at the same time. Try Skin Resurfacing Cleanser to brighten, smooth and provide ultra-clean skin. For a perfect spring pout, massage the product over the lips to remove dry flakes before applying one of the season’s bright lip colors.

Top Hollywood makeup artist Anthony Merante (famous clients include the one-and-only Lady Gaga!) suggests lightening up your makeup bag this spring by trying some new products that do double duty, like lip and cheek colors. He also recommends using an eyeliner as a cream shadow, or a shimmery powder shadow as a highlighter.

Makeup artist Charlotte Day, whose editorial looks are often seen gracing the pages of Vogue, thinks coral is the perfect dual-purpose color, and uses it for lipstick, blusher and eye color! It’s a summery, flattering and feminine hue that matches well with other spring makeup trends, like the orange lip.

Glow from the Inside, Out
“Spring is my favorite season for makeup trends,” said celeb makeup artist Anthony Merante. One of his favorite runway looks is the fresh, dewy skin seen at the Dolce & Gabbana show.

To achieve this natural glow, layer a liquid hydrator beneath your moisturizer to satisfy thirsty skin. Dermalogica’s Annet King recommends a few drops of Skin Hydrating Booster, which smoothes fine lines and helps skin retain that dewy, moist appearance. Lighten and protect the eye area with Total Eye Care SPF15, which has optical light diffusers to conceal dark shadows. Total Eye Care also contains seaweed and plant extracts to firm and reduce puffiness, and physical sunscreens to protect from UV damage.

And don’t forget about the rest of your body! For a quick remedy for dry, rough skin, wipe Daily Resurfacer over hands, arms and legs for no-rinse-necessary exfoliation. Follow with Body Hydrating Cream to nourish and treat all skin conditions.

Embrace Bold Colors
Charlotte Day is excited about the lime green, yellow, purple and blue eyeshadow colors she has seen on the runway this year. “Colors were used quite a bit during the shows, emphasizing the girls’ eyes,” said Day. “The rest of the face should be kept pretty natural.”

To accomplish that flawless-but-natural skin, Annet King suggests mixing a silicone-based primer with your favorite foundation or tinted moisturizer. Barrier Repair and Sheer Tint Moisture SPF 15 provide a healthy, luminous glow while smoothing lines, soothing sensitive spots and protecting skin from the environmental assaults.

Eyes are not the only features getting some color this year. Anthony Merante noticed the bright neon pink lip at the Fendi show, standing out next to a nude eye and light cheek color. “Another trend I saw was a lot less lipgloss and a lot more lipstick,” said Merante. To prep your pout for long-lasting lip color, don’t forget to exfoliate!
