An S & G display at my local Target had caught my eager product-seeking eyes recently, and since I was looking for a new body wash to try (what product junkie doesn’t crave something new?!) I decided to drop $9.99 on a  16.9 fl. oz. bottle of Clean, Girls Skin Softening cream cleanser.  Talk about ten bucks well-spent: this creamy lotion lathers well and is lightly scented with Mist You Madly’s™ beautiful notes of bergamot, blackcurrant, magnolia, freesia, vanilla and musk (fragrance info courtesy of The Soap and Glory Daily Muse).  Girls–and guys–with sensitive noses need not be afraid; nothing offensive about this delectable combo.

How to use:

• Rub a handful of Clean, Girls™ onto slightly damp skin until it forms a thick, luxurious lather, and then rinse.

Naturity’s body scrubs are made with essential oils, organic Demerara sugar, and organic sunflower seed oil—sounds edible.

The sweet orange and peppermint natural scents smell amazingly good. The health benefits of orange essential oil include anti-inflammatory properties.  Peppermint oil contains menthol, which nourishes dull skin and improves oily skin.  It also gave a nice cooling effect.

Demurral sugar is a traditional unrefined sugar, produced to have larger and crunchier crystals than granulated sugar. Some claim that it is too rough for a sugar scrub to be used head to toe, which is perhaps the case for softer female skin, but I found it to be just right, particularly for the soles of my feet.

Moisture-retaining sunflower seed oil helps provide a protective barrier resisting against skin infections and helps to soothe red, irritated skin.  Both products contained just the right amount, leaving my skin hydrated, soft and radiant.  I’ve tried other products containing too much oil, and it sits on top of my skin–leaving me looking like a glazed doughnut.

Naturity puts its money where its mouth is by using 99 to 100% certified organic ingredients. Scrubs can either be gentle or rough, leave an oily residue or rinse clean, and can have rounded particles (like jojoba) or rough-edged particles (like walnut shells).  Different types are good for different jobs. Here are some I think you’ll like.

The Grapeseed Company Grapefruit & Ginger Scrub

The Grapeseed Company makes a wonderful body scrub.  I tried the new pink grapefruit and ginger sugar/grape seed scrub. This is rough scrub – perfect for your body – especially those rough patches on knees and elbows. It has a mix of 80% organic ingredients including skin-loving oils such as coconut, olive, jojoba and almond.

The Grapeseed Company’s grapefruit and ginger scrub also includes white tea, and grape seeds of course, which give you a dose of anti-aging antioxidant power!

This is a scrub that leaves a lot of oil, so only use it on dry areas such as legs, elbows, feet and arms – and be careful not to slip in the tub!

Alba Pineapple Enzyme Scrub

Another scrub I love is Alba’s Pineapple Enzyme Facial Scrub. My boyfriend bought me a tube of it as a treat for getting my flu shot last year. Don’t tell him I told you, but he was too chicken to get his own flu shot!

This is a scrub that leaves a bit of oily residue, so I like to use it after I wash my face with a regular cleanser. The facial cleanser from the same line does not leave a residue, so they’re a good pair.

Nurture My Body Organic Exfoliating Cleanser

I tried a sample of Nurture My Body’s Organic Exfoliating Cleanser recently. It’s a good every-day scrub because the organic jojoba beads are super gentle. What I love most about it is the Environment Working Group’s rating for it – ZERO! That means it’s safe enough to eat – okay, not really – don’t eat it.  But, it’s as safe a product as you can get – you can feel safe using it on yourself and your family. Also – it leaves no oily residue, so you can use it as an every-day gentle cleanser.

Anyway, I’ve been trying some calorie-free sweets lately – sorry, they go on your body – not in your mouth!

Soy Spacasso Sweet Vanilla Body Scrub

The first is the Sweet Vanilla Sea Salt Body Scrub by Soy Spacasso.  OMG – wow! This stuff smells heavenly. It smells like cheesecake to me – or birthday cake. It’s one of those fabulous sea salt scrubs that has skin-loving oils to moisturize while it removes dead skin cells. The sea salt is enveloped by avocado, soya and shea oils, which leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. It also has wheat germ, aloe vera, chamomile and sage to soothe skin.

I do want to note that this product does contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). SLS is a very common ingredient that makes soaps, bubble baths, shampoos, and even toothpastes foam up.  It has also been the target of many false claims.  SLS has NOT been shown to be a carcinogen (cancer-causing agent) as some believe.  Just don’t eat massive amounts of it or stick it in your eyes!  However, SLS can be an irritant (like many natural ingredients), and may not be great for those with very sensitive skin.  The Environmental Working Group gives it a 3 (moderate hazard), which is pretty low compared to other ingredients.  I have sensitive skin, and have had no problem with SLS in soaps (or with this scrub), but I do tend to break out around my mouth when I use toothpaste with SLS, so I use Tom’s of Maine toothpaste instead.  But, don’t take my word for it;  I encourage you to do your own research!

UPDATE: I just got word from Soy Spacasso – they will soon be using an organic foaming agent – so no more SLS.  So…if you are worried about SLS, you can still enjoy this great product!

I also want to mention that I have a super sensitive nose and many products bother the heck out of me, but not this one – it’s scent lasts after the shower, but doesn’t give me a headache like some products do (sorry Bath and Body Works!).

One With Nature Shea Body Wash

The second product I’d like to tell you about is One With Nature’s Shea Body Wash.  It smells sweet and wonderful too – kind like doughnuts!  It’s nice and moisturizing but leaves no residue to speak of.  And, it’s filled with good-for-your-skin ingredients like dead sea salt, organic aloe vera juice, pro-vitamin B5, pomegranate, goji berry, myrrh, and green tea.  Plus, it’s a steal for only $8.99!

Best Bath Store - Chocolate Lip Balm

I’m also loving Best Bath Store’s Chocolate Lip Balm.  It has cocoa butter, organic cocoa powder, organic honey, vitamin E, vanilla essential oil, vegetable glycerin and grapefruit seed extract – almost good enough to eat!

Tastes like chocolate and makes your lips smooth and kissable without any irritating ingredients – what more could you ask for?
