Nothing is better than a shiny, brand new tube of lipstick or gloss – except possibly grabbing that new lippie for a steal in the aisles of your favorite drugstore. Today, we have a look at the much talked about liquid lip color from Wet n Wild, one of our very favorite budget beauty brands.
The Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Lip Color offers waterproof, smudge-proof color in 13 gorgeous shades, including both cremes and shimmers. This is a great in-between product for those who love the coverage of lipstick and the spreadable application of lip gloss. Each shade is highly pigmented and the color you get on your lips matches perfectly to the color you see in the tube.
The Megalast Liquid Lip Color has a standard wand applicator, but no wiper in the tube so a lot of product is distributed upon opening. As a liquid lip color, it goes on shiny and wet and dries quickly to a matte finish. When dry, it can feel really tight on the lips, but by applying it carefully with the following method, it’s entirely possible to get the desired opaque finish without feeling like your lips are being strangled.
Application Tips: First coat lips in a hydrating balm, like Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm. After that absorbs, outline your lips with the Megalast Liquid Lip Color, using the thinner side of the wand to get a clean edge. Next, fill in your lips with the broad side of the wand in one thin, even layer (alternately, you could use a lip brush or your finger).
Again, applying too much will make this product tighten and constrict your lips so be careful to use as little as is needed for even coverage. Keep lips open until dry, which should only take a moment. You can also top it with a clear gloss like NYX’s Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Clear or another layer of lip balm.
This product gives an amazing amount of true color and it stays put for hours, but I wouldn’t recommend eating while wearing it, as I found it wore off unevenly when doing so. Aside from that, this stuff really doesn’t budge – when it’s time to remove the lip color, makeup remover on a cotton ball is easiest; otherwise you’re in for some serious scrubbing.
I tested this method on four vibrant Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Lip Colors:
Click On My HyperPink – This neon pink is probably not for everyone, but the color payoff is unbeatable. You can also spread just a tiny amount on lips for a more subdued look.
High-Pitched Wine – A truly unique color somewhere between merlot and brown, this shade is both dramatic and vampy.
Back To The Fuchsia – This beautiful raspberry shade is a great alternative to the classic red lip.
Red My Mind – A true red with bluish undertones, this deep color dries to a gorgeous matte finish for a glam look.
Applied carefully in a thin coat, this product gives amazing, super bright color at a drugstore price. Some people might not love this formula when it dries, but for superior color, velvety finish and the confidence of knowing it’s not going anywhere, this product is worth trying out. As long as you’re careful with application and diligent with hydrating balm or gloss, you’re in for a colorful treat!
